Little Things

Today's reflection is courtesy of Sue Russell. We are blessed to have Sue's insight which she shares so generously.

There were words to a song awhile ago – “little things mean a lot”. Right now the world seems to be caught up in mega things. We have a pandemic raging, politics seem to be out of control, countries are divided, people are scared, depressed tired and very angry.

It is hard to remain calm under these circumstances however these are not new. The Holy Land in Jesus’ time was not a peaceful place. Most of us are in no position to make major changes – but we can do some “little” things. We can be kind to our friends and neighbors, gently agree to disagree if necessary. We can smile with our eyes, we can inquire how the family of those serving us is doing and wish them safety. Sometimes a kind word can make a difference in someone’s lonely life.

Maybe this is a good time to inquire “what would Jesus do”? He was kind and merciful to those who were hurting, patient with those who had trouble understanding. Maybe by doing something that would encourage these qualities we could help each other remain calm and ride out the storm. Following our Lord’s example of patience, kindness and mercy – we can go and do likewise.
