Worship in the heart of historic Longwood, Florida
151 West Church Avenue

A warm welcome to all! Christ Church is a Reformed and Evangelical Anglican Church and part of the Anglican Communion. Our facilities are in the Anglican mission style and provide a historic and sacred place for the worship of God and fellowship with one another. Our worship services are centered in the Holy Scriptures and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We believe the preaching of God's word and the two sacraments are means of grace which God uses to bring lost sinners to saving faith in the one sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross.
Our mission is to uphold the authority of Holy Scripture and to preach the life changing Gospel of Jesus Christ in our worship and to spread the message of God's forgiveness of sins to everyone in our community and to the whole world.
Worship services are on Sunday at 10:00 AM, with an open invitation to all who seek to know more about Jesus and to baptized Christians already in relationship to our Lord Jesus Christ. Join us in worship, service and fellowship with others who follow our Lord.
Our communion table is open to all baptized Christians who believe in the trinity and in our Lord Jesus Christ as their only righteousness and who died in their place for their sins.
We welcome inquiries and comments concerning our church and/or our web-site.
About Us
Our statement of faith is the Thirty-Nine Articles of Religion. We believe the Thirty-Nine Articles of Religion exclude any Roman Catholic, Anglo-Catholic, Laudian, or other views which are not in accord with the plain meaning of the Articles in the context of the English Reformation of the 16th century. The Articles outline in summary form the very Gospel of Jesus Christ. We believe the Articles are an authoritative confession of faith and have the same authority as the universally accepted creeds.
The parish of Christ Church is a part of the Episcopal Diocese of Central Florida. Our supervising Bishop is John Howe. Our rector is David Knox. We are appreciative that our pastor comes from the heritage of Evangelical faith in the Sydney Diocese of the Anglican Church in Australia.
We believe Jesus Christ our Lord is at the center of everything
we do. Knowing His saving grace, we are not ashamed of the gospel; we firmly believe it is the power
of God for the salvation of everyone who believes. We further know that in all things God works for the
good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose. Jesus said, "Come to me
all ye who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest.” Through the love of the Father, our doors
are open to everyone who wishes to commune and worship with us as encouraged by Hebrews 10:25; everyone is welcome.
Our minister, David Knox, has been with Christ Church since 1999. He has served in three Anglican and Episcopal churches before accepting his calling here as minister. Warm hearted and open, he preaches from the bible each Sunday, elucidating and teaching its message in a manner that is relevant to living in this present age; thus underscoring our motto, “Upholding Scriptural Authority”. He identifies with Christ Church as its shepherd and leads its people in a loving and concerned manner.
Christ Church meets for worship each Sunday morning at 10:00. The first, second, and fourth Sundays of the month we use the First Order of Holy Communion; the third Sunday is the Second Order. Now and again, we enjoy the diversity of a morning prayer service. David conducts a bible study in the Parish Hall on Thursday mornings at 10:30 am and on Thursday evenings at 7:00 pm in various homes. (Please call the church office for directions). These studies are in-depth, intriguing, informative, and embrace the participants in rigorous and interesting discussions.

Adult Sunday School
Adult Sunday School meets each Sunday morning at 9:00 in room 12 of the Christian education building. Our current study is an indepth examination of The Thirty-Nine Articles of Religion, which is the historic confession of faith of the Reformed and Protestant Anglican churches. The Thirty-Nine Articles summarize in a systematic way what Anglicans believe the Scriptures teach. Christ Church takes seriously our Lord's command to "make disciples." Clearly every Christian should understand what the Reformed Anglican churches believe the Scriptures teach in our Lord Jesus Christ said that we are to be disciples and that we are to "make disciples of all nations." (Matthew 28:18-20).
Our History
The Christian congregation known as Christ Church began meeting and growing along with the Longwood community in the 1870's. First in people's homes and then in a small log schoolhouse on the property of one of Longwood's founders Mr. E. W. Henck. Their first recorded activity was Mr. F.H. Rand's daughter's baptism on Easter Day 1877. Later the child's grandparents visited and saw the need for a church building and so began fundraising for it upon their return to Boston. Mr. Henck donated six acres on what is now Church Avenue (including where the police station now stands) and the congregation built on its east end, around 1880. They chose the board and batten "Carpenter Gothic" style, fashionable at the time. The furnishings were all gifts and the earliest are dated 1879. Many were made locally and others came from the original Holy Cross parish building in Sanford that was destroyed in a hurricane in 1880. Christ Church then consisted of nine families and twenty communicants, but no official minister. The congregation took care of itself and was visited occasionally by traveling clergymen. Their new building was dedicated Easter 1882 and in 1883 clergy visits became regular, however it was only in 1955 that the first full-time pastor was appointed. Christ Church has thrived together with Longwood for over 125 years. Its building is the oldest continuously used Christian meeting house in Seminole County. In 2004, damage was caused to the church buildings by hurricanes Charlie, Francis, and Jean. We are pleased to report all damage has been repaired.
